Medium: Lacquer on wood.
The lacquer is clear sap coming from any of six species of tree growing in Vietnam. The lacquer painting is made lacquer mixed with a various natural or artificial dyes to produce the colours the artist want. Several other materials may be used to make lacquer painting, I. E. Egg shells, sea shells, sand, silver leaf and gold leaf.
A lacquer painting may use up to ten layers of coloured and clear lacquer, and between each layer, the board is left to dry and afterwards smoothed and polished. The rubbing must done with great care, using fine sandpaper and a mix of charcoal powder and human hair.
