This painting is of a house in Yemen's capital, Sana'a. Sana'a is a unesco world heritage site, but is under threat of destruction by bombing on account of the civil war which currently continues. The tradition of elaborately painting the houses with white paint on the earthen bricks makes for a beautiful city. The artist was lucky to visit Sana'a during a time of peace. Oil paint is applied thinly onto a red surface, providing the appearance of the house at sunset, or sunrise.
