The Greening is the pasture lands of the higher hillsides outside of Santa Ysabel At the Band of Coyotes Indian Reservation. Cattle graze on recent growth of grass from rains in this usually dry area. Live Oak grow within the rocks where the cattle can not reach the trees. Sandy areas of eroded banks called «blow outs» are areas over grazed and the vegetation has lost its hold on the soil. This happened over much of the west at the time of large Buffalo herds. I painted the work in oils on canvas in my studio in Escondido California one hour away from this location.
