I love this artwork because it fits in with my theme of art of Light & Water as this is a painting of a sunset depicting how the sky changes colour from sunlight as the sun goes down, changing from a beautiful mid cobalt blue that evolves into a delightful array of golden hues, pink and lavender hues that reflect onto the sea and clouds making the sea and clouds look pink with other colours.
Philip Island gave me happy memories of going on my first Catholic Church youth group camps there, and we had camp bonfires on the beach that were warm and engaging, everyone was friendly, happy and relaxed, and friendships were made or strengthened. I remember thinking how the sea looks as though it goes on forever. I’m really happy with this painting. In affection for the good memories I had at Philip Island I named this painting after there. I think my sea in this painting looks at bit basic. I would like to paint this sea in a few more silvery-blue hues with touches of golden highlights. I would like to try mixing the impasto paste and more moulding medium into the paint colours and after that paint the colours on with a palette knife, rather than painting the impasto medium as a base layer, with painting the paint on top.
