Sumi ink on a2 (594 X 420 mm) 250 gsm mixed media paper. Inspired by the 1999 Guinness ‘Surfer’ advert (which in turn was inspired by Walter Crane’s 1893 painting, Neptune’s Horses). Created by the London ad agency Abbott Mead Vickers/BBDO in London in 1999. The minute-long “Surfer” advert was crafted by art director Walter Campbell, copywriter Tom Carty and director Jonathan Glazer. And it remains (in my opinion) the best advert of all time. He waits… That’s what he does… And I’ll tell you what; tick followed tock followed tick followed tock followed tick. Ahab says “i don’t care who you are, here’s to your dream”. The old sailors return to the bar. “Here’s to you, Ahab! ” And the fat drummer hit the beat with all his heart’ Here’s to waiting…
