The Dynamic Duo. Peter Melonnas Peter Melonas
On the grave of his parents he made a promise that he would rid Gotham City of the evil that took their lives. By day, his was Bruce Wayne, billionaire philanthropist and his ward Dick Grayson. As night falls, criminals, a cowardly and superstitious lot, called them… The Dynamic Duo or the Caped Crusaders. The name «Robin the Boy Wonder» and the medieval look of the original costume were inspired by the Errol Flynn movie The Adventures of Robin Hood. Later re-tellings of Robin's origin have instead often said the name comes from the robin bird, not Robin Hood. Conceived as a vehicle to attract young readership, Robin garnered overwhelmingly positive critical reception, doubling the sales of the Batman related comic books. Dick Grayson appeared as the first Robin in 1940; after his becoming of Nightwing, several different youths have appeared as Robin. Although Robin is best known as Batman's sidekick, three Robins have also been members of the superhero group the Teen Titans.
The 1966 television series focused on Batman and Robin as they defend Gotham City from its various criminals. Although the lives of their alter-egos, millionaire Bruce Wayne and his ward Dick Grayson are frequently shown, it is usually only briefly, in the context of their being called away on superhero business or in circumstances where they need to employ their public identities to assist in their crime-fighting. The «Dynamic Duo» typically comes to the aid of the Gotham City Police upon the latter being stumped by a supervillain. Throughout each episode, Batman and Robin follow a series of seemingly improbable clues to discover the supervillain's plan, then figure out how to thwart that plan and capture the criminal.
