Drawing was my first passion. When my mother was too busy to take care of her children (we eventually grew to be seven siblings) because she was running the house chores as well, she would suggest to me to help or to go play something. When it was not imaginary horses, spaceships, or invisible enemies, it was drawing. Paper and pencil at first, watercolor later on. I can truly say that my first passion was drawing. Household items, trees, houses, people, comics.
Then it was music. At ten I started playing on drums made up of carton boxes, pots and pans, with wooden hangers as drumsticks. My grandma gave me a real drum set for my thirteenth birthday. I played with a couple of high school bands. Eventually I discovered the advantages and beauty of the classic guitar, which my mother played fairly well and taught me my first songs. I play it to this day. Mostly boleros and love songs form the 50s and 60s. By ear. In Spanish.
I got my degree in architecture, which was a sort of compromise. My father wanted me to be an engineer, like him. But my passion was for the arts, either music, painting, or literature. Architecture has some of both: art and science. But my passions for the arts have never vanished.
I got my Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas in 2016; worked as an architect all my life, and also managed to publish several poetry books starting in the 1990s. I continue to publish to this day and actively participate in poetry festivals whenever I can.
Lately, my passion for drafting is re-emerging. Is being uncovered and recovered. I use technology: ai receives my instructions, always in the form of poems of mine based on dreams. The paintings in my gallery are the product of my imagination and also of the algorithms of ai. I try to keep pace with the advances of technology (phones, computers, tablets, intelligent security systems, magazines). Ai generated art is part of that. We complement each other.
My works can be reproduced on paper, canvas, metal, or glass. In sizes from 4«x6» to 20«x30». Feel free to contact me via email or via my gallery. You can also find me on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
